Compassion in Action is an initiative of RockPointe Church that focuses on raising awareness and monies to support justice and mercy work around the world.

Compassion in Action began in 2007 when RockPointe Church gave away $50,000 to 73 small groups with two purposes: raise awareness about the epidemic of HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty in the world and raise funds that could be used to fight HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty.

At the time no one knew what would happen.  Would the $50,000 in seed money be lost?  Would the experiment break even and return $50,000?  Or would the money be doubled, $100,000 returned.  No one imagined that a half a million dollars would be raised, but by the grace of God that is what happened.  Ten times the initial investment was raised by groups who held garage sales, sold t-shirts, held a car show, ran a book sale, held a letter writing campaign and thought of many other creative ideas.

The proceeds from the fundraising efforts were used to finance projects in four different countries where HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty runs rampant.  In Niger, funds were used to fund HIV/AIDS treatments and fund clean water projects in villages.  In Malawi funds were used for medicine and diagnostic equipment vital to the treatment of HIV/AIDS and related diseases.  In Cambodia, monies were used to improve the living conditions at an orphanage in Phnom Penh.  And in Indonesia funds were used to translate educational materials and send out training teams to educate villagers about the risk of unprotected sex and HIV/AIDS.

In the spring of 2010, RockPointe Church is going to continue its focus on increasing awareness and raising funds for justice and mercy work around the world through Compassion in Action 2:  Stop the Traffic.  Compassion in Action 2 will focus on the epidemic of Human Trafficking that is taking place.  Funds raised will be used to bring help to victims of human trafficking in Ukraine, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Cambodia and Calgary, Alberta.
